Our approach

The  Jesse Owens School Counseling Program is dedicated to and committed to being a positive and sincere member of our community and stakeholders. We will work under the guise of adaptability and the pursuit of excellence in all we do in our service. Our priority is to provide the best possible support that addresses the unique needs of each student in Chicago, Illinois, especially those here at Jesse Owens Career Academy. We invite you to examine our program intentions and learn how we will serve your child, and each child that we meet, in hopes of achieving academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary success.

The foundation of our program

The foundation of our program is based on the duty of care and concern for the needs of our students and their families as we aspire to improve student outcomes. Our program will follow the ASCA National Model Framework for school counseling programs, while aligning with our school's vision and mission to create a positive impact on achievement, attendance, and discipline.

Transparent goals based on the ASCA student standards: Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success, and Professional ASCA Ethical Standards for School counselors and the ASCA School counselor Professional Standards & Competencies to guarantee student support and development.

By ensuring program focus and program planning,   we will be efficiently and effectively delivering counseling services to maximize student impact.

Assess outcomes

Always concerned with ensuring we provide the best support and achieve the best outcomes for our students, Jesse Owens School counselors will regularly conduct program assessments, and participate in school counselor assessments and appraisals.

Our program is built and based on the need for care and concern for all students in Chicago, Illinois. As an urban, inner-city school counseling program, we understand on a personal and professional level the needs and dedication required to help students succeed in often challenging times and environments.
